Unable to Set Spindle Speed via G-Code <resolved>

Post by morchips »

Hello,

Another likely dumb mistake on my part – but I seem to be unable to set the spindle speed via G-Code
  • I can set the speed via "manual" mode correctly
  • Any speed I set, it runs at the minimum speed
  • I have tried variations of commands

    Code: Select all

    S800 M3
    to

    Code: Select all

    S800000 M3
with no apparent change, all resulting in:
  • No matter what I get the error

    Code: Select all

5038 SPECIFIED SPIN SPEED < MIN SPIN SPEED
Any idea what I am doing wrong?

When you ask for help, especially with setup questions, the forum requires you at a minimum to upload a current report from the machine so we can see your settings. Without this we are just guessing. Did you setup the spindle correctly in the wizard? If we had a report or screen shots we could help you.

Pictures of the wiring between the Acorn and the VFD would also help along with a link to the VFD manual and any setting changes you've made on the VFD.
Cheers,

Tom

I normally unplug the spindle speed from acorn. On the 0-10v leads going to the vfd, use a 9 volt batter to send 9v dc to the vfd speed input. See if it works as is should without acorn. You should get 90 percent of max speed.

One other thing from the questions above that is worth re-stating:

I AM able to successfully set the speed to, in this case 800RPM via the MANUAL control. I switch to manual, spindle on, set to 800. The issue comes when I set the speed via NC code.

EDIT: We posted that at the same time. Yes, I can set the speed, ust not via NC code

Your error log is absolutely full of MPU and PC resends. This MUST be addressed before trying to work out other issues as the system will not work properly until this is sorted.

Review Keith's post here https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 777#p82777
Hope this helps

I noticed those as well – I am using a very high quality shielded ethernet cable, but will try a different one just for giggles.

Would that cause this kind of issue?

Update, I swapped out the short, shielded Cat6a cable for the ~15' provided one, and ran stress tests which passed. I should have ran them before making the change as they may have still passed, but that's life.

All other requirements had already been completed...

Resolved – apparently fixing the coms issue fixed the spindle. Weird because everything else seemed to function

Thanks!
