Set DM860T to 5V and wire to DB25
Get 24V NPN and wire to 24V Headers

I am constrained.
I am using Stepper online Stepper motors and controllers and Centroid recommends using the DB-25 5V connections for that and I do. It works well. Centroid also says "do not mix the 24V inputs with the 5V DB-25 inputs. And the switch you mention looks like it would require me to use 24V
Well, we don't want you to wire 24V things to the DB-25 header. You can use the H1 and H4 inputs for anything that requires 24V inputs. That's how everyone installs their limit switches and that's how we designed it to be.
Hmmh.
That's how "everyone installs their switches"?
The documentation states not to mix DB-25 5V inputs with the 24V. H2 & H3 inputs.
I think I misunderstood the warning because I see the Install manual has an example of DB-25 Stepper motor connections with the limit switches going to the 24V H1 inputs.
And that works for me.
So..
Thanks for the response, I think I'm good now
Cheers

Exactly what I stated earlier Uwe, thank you.
If he's going to use multiple power supplies then tie the grounds/commons together between the power supplies.

The DM860T drive are 5V. The external switch on the drive connects an internal circuit to drop it back to 5V. They are 5v drives.

I didn't think he did.

My understanding was that he wanted to know whether it was okay to wire prox switches (or any other kind of switch) to the inputs on H4 and/or H1, while still connecting the step/direction drive interface via the DB25.

Ah-ha, that of course is a perfectly normal thing to do.
