c axis control in lathe pro intercon

Post by HunterStew »

I am toying with the idea of adding a c axis control to my lathe but don't know if intercon will be able to program for it.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible or point me to a thread already dealing with this.
I haven't bought 'lathe pro' yet. I know Uwe Mattern did something like this but i think he was using an acorn six.
I had always assumed he was generating a code from fusion 360 for c axis control???

C-axis with Acorn is no problem I started with Acorn before upgrade to Six

Intercon is only for 2 axis turning.

You can make the turning with Intercon and insert C-axis part by hand, or use the fusion PP I have made.

Thanks, that answers all the questions I had concerning that.
the other thing that i want to know from you Uwe is about the em clutch you used.
What is the torque rating for slip and where did you find it online?
My lathe is Probably a good bit larger that yours and so I reckon I'll need a pretty strong stepper/servo to get the spindle moving smoothly.
thanks again

What size is your lathe and what size the live tooling?

I have the clutch custom tailored from Mayr:

https://www.mayr.com/de/produkte/kupplu ... lungen~294

Depends on the configuration if an oversized spindle servo for C-axis, or a smaller servo and a second one with clutch is cheaper.

If the spindle drive is with a gearbox, you will need a direct drive Servo and clutch anyway.

Thanks Uwe, my lathe is a Harrison 400t with a std braked induction motor with belts directly linking shaft to the spindle.
I think that I might go with a nema34 stepper and the clutch assembly like what you have, thanks for the link by the way!
I have watched some more of your videos and I now want a y axis too! Jealousy is a dangerous emotion!
keep making videos please

thanks again

ok, with a 12Nm Stepper and final 4.5:1 reduction you need a clutch at least with 54Nm

UWE you made a custom Fusion PP for the C axis?
Do you need to buy an upgraded package in Fusion to model it?

No postprocessor's are very good documented in fusion, they have a programming manual and a plugin in for VCS with live testing ect...

Quite easy to learn, I had no clue from Java Script before starting to build an PP for my machine.
