Lathe tool setting probe software does not work properly

Post by PhilipTrueman »

Can anyone tell me where the lathe tool probe setting code is stored in the software?
It really does not work properly as it puts the wrong values in the tool offsets page.
Has anybody been able to make it work with more than one tool?
It's ok making videos on You Tube but do you ever see a valid result to the accuracy of the probing with more than one tool.

Yes every time I setup my tools.

Accuracy depends also on the runout of the probe, so if you have 0.02mm runout after reclamping the probe in the chuck you cannot expect the setup to be better than this.

Accuracy also depends on the spindle play, the tool post, the holders, the ways, and the screws. You will ALWAYS have deflection from cutting forces, and the only way to account for it is with test cuts.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Yes, to minimize these influences on accuracy with TTO:

Make a shim cut on the same material with the same cut of depth, feed and spindle speed as your finish pass will be.

Measure diameter and set part 0 X axis

Clamp the TTO in the chuck
Adjust runout
Set X Ref and Z Ref

Measure all ID and OD tools in XZ

Set X Ref = 0
setup X with indicator for the drills

Clamp the TTO in the chuck
Measure Z on the drills

On my machine this will cut the first part with less than 0,01mm deviation, except long flexing parts far away from the chuck
