During ProbeApp configuration, WMPG jogging wheel quit - resolved

Post by kb58 »

Title says it all. I thought that the two topics were not connected and sent the WMPG in for Service, only to be told by Centroid today that it's perfectly functional. (NOTE: the only function that isn't working is the handwheel, everything else works, which made me think that the encoder likely failed.)
I know there are a lot of ProbeApp users here and haven't seen any reports of this, but I have fingers crossed that someone had this happen and has a fix. I've already sent an email to Swissi, hoping that he's seen this before, and if so, I'll post the solution here. Centroid suggests that when I get the WMPG back, to try uninstalling ProbeApp as a test, but I hope that it doesn't come to that; I really would like both to be working!

In the report you were going to post, what value do you have for Parameter 348?

Attached. During discussion with Centroid, they didn't see any issue in the report. As I recall, it's probably zero (disabled) because Centroid hasn't shipped it back yet.

Received a reply from Swiss and it's quoted here in case anyone else runs into this:
Nobody has reported any issues with the WMPG using the ProbeApp. I’m using the WMPG daily with the ProbeApp without any issues. The only change that the ProbeApp does in CNC12 is replacing the mfunc58.mac macro in the c:\cncm folder and replacing the M58 button in the current VCP configuration with the ProbeApp button. That’s it!

The WMPG does have a Probe Protection feature. If the Probe is in a trip state, the WMPG allows jogging only with the 1x speed. Put the speed selector to 1x and turn the wheel and see if the selected axis moves. If it does, you have a problem with your probe NO/NC configuration. If you have a TP of type NC and no Detect Input, CNC12 will think the TP is tripped when you disconnect the TP.
I won't be able to test for this until I get the WMPG back.

not sure what the issue is here. do you have a WMPG-6? do you have it in your hand?

if cnc12 thinks a probe is trippped it will inhibit moving to try and save you from further crashing the probe. I would suspect you don't have the probe configured properly.

this is covered in the probe setup manual. page 16

why did you send the WMPG-6 back to Centroid?

Yes, I have a WMPG-6, Centroid has it and is shipping it back. I spent a fair bit of time on the phone with Centroid Support, and did narrow it down to the wheel. If probe protect locks out axes movement, does that include all movement commands issued by the WMPG? If so, then something else is going on because everything on the WMPG works except wheel commands.

Because the wheel commands were not working and Centroid Support asked me to send it in.
