I have an old core-xy 3d printer it uses all linear rails and I am looking to convert it to a cnc router, Can the Acorn use core-xy kinematics?
Thank you

Re: core-xy kinematics
Note that a 3D printer has virtually no stress and little weight on the head when printing. A CNC machine has a lot of stress during cutting operations. I'd guess that a core X-Y printer wouldn't have the gumption to handle the stresses or even the weight of the router.
If it's one used to build concrete homes, maybe. A standard FDM printer, probably not.

Re: core-xy kinematics
Agree that it's not up to the task. The issue is the comparatively enormous side loads it has to contend with, while the core XY (or any 3D printer) is built for basically zero side loading. In short, it'll vibrate itself to death really fast.

Yes, I agree, not a contender at all.

Re: core-xy kinematics
If on the other hand you attached a tool that doesn't impart stresses on the machine, like a laser, you could probably rig something up.
The other question about core X-Y being supported, no idea.
