Door Safety Switch <resolved>

Post by kman1967 »

Report attached...

I have a door safety switch wired to input 6 on our machine. When the door is open everything works as it should at the PC but I can still select fast jog on the MPG controller and jog at high speed. If I click and hold the spindle start button it will turn as well.

Typically, door safety switches are designed to protect people from electrical shock inside the control box. To do so, the door switch would be wired to the contactor coil to kill power to the box.

Hmm, rereading your question, I now suspect the "door switch" you're referring to is on the front of the router/mill enclosure. You could just wire the switch in series with your EStop switch, assuming you'd be happy with it doing the same things as when pressing EStop. Another way is to wire it per the above, though it does mean having 120 VAC present at the switch. That could be avoided with a low voltage supply and relay.

Regardless, tell us what you want to happen when this door is opened.

According to the literature the Door Safety input should disable the fast jog on both the PC and the MPG. I do not want the machine in an e-stop condition.

I have done as the documentation has stated. My input 6 is programmed as the Safety Door Switch though the Acorn Wizard. Parameter 985 is set to 1. Again, everything seems to work from the PC as I cannot select fast jog. But when using the MPG I can select fast jog and actually jog it. According to the documentation...
Allows Slow Jogging, will not allow user to select Fast Jog.
On vcp or mpg. Issues message “Door Open, slow jogging only”.
So for some reason I can still fast jog from the mpg. I am not sure if this is related to using input 6 rather than 7. Shouldn't matter.

I was just able to replicate this, using a wmpg with safety door switch open and P985=1 I can fast jog on the wmpg. I'll investigate further in the PLC with someone more qualified than me.

I just tried again and I can no longer replicate holding the spindle start key and running the spindle with the door open. That worries me a bit on how that happened but I'll focus on the WMPG fast jog for the moment.

Doing more investigation here...I am seeing some odd things.
I restarted CNC12 making sure the WMPG was powered on and connected. I wondered if maybe something was happening when powering on the WMPG after CNC12 was running. At one point I was able to fast jog the machine with the door open from the VCP. I didn't keep track of the sequence so I will have to attempt to replicate but I noticed now that I can select the x100 in the VCP without any notice coming up. I couldn't before. I can't physically fast jog but I could select. In spite of this the WMPG still takes control and allows me to fast jog with the door open.
I am going to go back to the machine and restart to document all the steps.

There currently an issue in the PLC logic where the MPG jog speed overrides fast/slow jog restrictions set by the door switch input. The logic for it will be updated in the upcoming software releases (beta rev14/5.08)
