Here are a couple of tool set gauges I made to take advantage of the probe input that the Acorn has available.
The first one is made from a piece of left over polyurethane from some casting I did, yes it looks just like a throw away plastic tumbler.
I bored a hole through it and pressed a stub or metal rod (aluminum) with alead wire attached. I elected to use RCA plugs as they will pull out of the socket they are plugged into if you catch the cord on something or inadvertently turn on the spindle. Ask me how I have verified this in fact works...

The second one is a modified Fowler electronic tool set gauge. I wired in a switch and RCA socket. The switch allows the setting tool to be used normally if desired.

Re: Home Brew Tool Setters
Cool stuff Bill, thanks.
Does the "Pro" level software come with the nec. probing cycles? I'm a long way from needing a probe on my mill project but I have a new-old-stock MaxNC 3D probe *squirreled away that I hope to use with my Acorn. Do probes just use one of the available inputs on the board?
Thanks,
Milton

Re: Home Brew Tool Setters
Hi, thanks for the info. I had to dope slap myself for not seeing that info plainly listed in the features of the three levels of software. I'm usually pretty good about RTFM'ing. Gettin' old I guess.
