Hi Marty,

Maybe you missed this statement in my post that you referenced:
762x51 wrote: Mon Aug 14, 2017 11:57 am The reason I had drawn the drawing showing using the 24V logic supply and 2K dropping resistors is that method of interfacing a controller with a Leadshine type stepper driver appears to be the "standard" used by almost all of the stepper driver suppliers.
So yes, I was aware of the stepper drivers input requirements and that the Leadshine type stepper driver inputs are limited to 5V. If you wired your stepper drivers, as shown in the drawing I referenced, then you'd more than likely damage your stepper drivers.

Centroids suggestion that a separate 5V power supply be used for the stepper interface is a reasonable suggestion as using a separate supply would reduce the chance of damage to your stepper drivers. I would suggest that the drawing I referenced be changed to show a 5V supply and not a 24V supply being used. If the Acorn can in fact handle 24V on the ST, DR, and EN lines then that should be mentioned as a note.

Agreed.
In fact I ordered a power supply for my next project for this very reason (and thank you for posting it Orin), the combo Meanwell 24VDC/5VDC power supply was less than $20 shipped to my door from JAMECO. Not worth bothering with resistors.
I will have one power supply for logic, 24VDC will feed Acorn and 5VDC will feed the Leadshine clone.

Hi Marty; is that a "Longs Motor" drive you're referring to? I have 3 DM542's & they seem to work OK & the price was good. Hope they last OK.

I ordered one of these closed loop NEMA 23 motor/drives from Automation Technologies to test out on my lathe turret:

Just about the same to hook up as any other Leadshine and equivalent clone....from what I can see anyway.

You're right, going with one power supply that provides both the 24 VDC for the Acorn's logic and 5 VDC for the stepper driver signals is a good idea so like you did, I've ordered one from JAMECO this evening. Maybe Centroid will consider offering the dual voltage supply as an option in the future. The cost (retail) difference is only about $3 and the dual output supply would have solved a lot of questions from the git-go.
