Rotary With 1000 Pulse/Rev And Acron

Post by porcupinehorseracing »

Hello, I am looking to connect Acron to a Leadshine driver. The manufacturer of the rotary table says that they use 1000 pulse/rev. When I watched a martyscncgarage's video, he mentioned not wanting to use anything below 1600 in CNC software.

Does anyone know why?

Will there be any problems running at 1000 pulse/rev for a rotary?

Thanks for your help.

doesn't make sense what you are saying. post information like a link to the rotary table you mention and or link to users manual for same etc.

maybe you are confusing steps per rev of the motor with turns per degree of the table?

Hi cnckeith,

Thanks for trying to help me. Can I ask if the CNC software + Acorn have any issues with 1000 pulses/rev? martyscncgarage says to avoid it in his video at 42:33:

But maybe he's saying that because the clearpath motors he's using won't play well below 1600 pulses/rev.

For your second question, I was looking to connect Acorn to a Tormach Micro4. Tormach uses a Leadshine MA860H driver to run the Micro4. In Tormach's installation video, they set the dip switches on the Leadshine for 1000 pulse/rev.

So here in lies the issue - evaluating whether Acorn and CNC can play nice at 1000 pulses/rev.

Which leadshine drive do you have? Which motor? What is the reduction ratio of the rotary?

How about some pictures?

set the Leadshine MA860H to 1600 with the dip switches, and then set the Acorn Wizard to 1600 for that axis and it will run great.
you are stressing about nothing:-)) (you don't have to set it to 1000 like they say in the video.)

Awesome, thank you so much.

So as a general rule, it sounds like Acorn and CNC12 shouldn't run below 1600. I'll keep that in mind.

it is just good in general for any control, each revolution of the stepper motor is broken up into steps. the lower the steps the lower the resolution the motor shaft can achieve (or be commanded).

Do I need Acorn's "Pro" license to be able to run 4th axis G code through CNC? Or since I'll be running only one axis, that CNC12 will be fine? For now, this rotary table will be the only motor driven by CNC12/Acorn.

Thank you again for your help.

CNC12 free is capable of 3 axis simultaneous + 4th axis as single moves. Since any axis can be rotary or linear, you don't have to worry about that if it is the only axis controlled by ACORN.
