Here is a screenshot of the DB44connector from the DA98B manual. It shows which signals are inputs and which are outputs.
The table wouldn't copy entirely, but the pins in the left hand column are inputs, the center column are outputs and the right hand column is labelled as "other".

I made a cable based on the diagram you provided Centroid_Tech2, using the Acorn board's DB25 connector and the DB44 connector on the DA98B. I haven't tried it yet, but I will post the result and the document that I created showing where I connected things, based on my interpretation of your diagram tomorrow.

Here is my reading of the connections provided by Centroid_Tech2. I still don't know whether the cable works, but will soon.

I connected the cable that I produced from Centroid_Tech2s diagram and the drive now rotates. It only turns about 1/4 of a turn in either direction, before CNC12 stops with a drive fault error.
Progress indeed!

I should mention that the actual error from CNC12 is 9031 Drive Fault.

For posterity, CNC12 error 9031 Drive Fault was caused by the "Drive OK" input being set to normally open. I changed the setting to normally closed in the Acorn Wizard and removed the error.

Next, I will return to my original setup, using the screw terminals on the Acorn board and see if I can get the motor turning using that interface.

Those connection will not work on the screw terminals. You would need to connect them as shown in the attached schematic.

Thanks Centroid_Tech2, why is it different? I'm just wondering, it will make no difference to the functionality, but I wouldn't mind knowing why we need to connect the negative side of step and direction using the screw terminals and the positive side of the same using the DB25?

I probably should have said earlier, but better late than never, if anyone else tries to connect a DA98B to an Acorn board, the pin numbers in the diagrams provided by Centroid_Tech2 are wrong. This is due to a simple misunderstanding about device names. The GSK 980MDa is a CNC controller, similar to the Acorn system. The AC Servo drive is a DA98B, so the connections needed are from the Acorn board to the DA98B AC Servo driver, not as the diagrams show - to a MDa980.
The pin numbers, signal names and the connector types are also different between DA98B and the 980MDa.
This confusion is almost certainly my fault, but the translation of the connections from the DA98B to the Acorn DB25, that I posted in my document works.
