Inkscape text not centered in cn12 (resolved)

Post by Ken Rychlik »

After changing a button, when it loads in cn12 the text is off of center. I can make the text off of center the opposite way in inscape and it then looks good in cn12. Do I have to save the file a specific way, or group the text for it to work? I can do the report and button i made, but this is more of a check to see if an old hand here knows the process well.
Thanks
Ken

Ken,

If you haven't done so, try selecting the text and apply "Path/Object to Path", and then align it to page centers. You may need to group it first to align it, and then ungroup it before saving. Make sure that there are no effects applied to the text, such as a blur or shadow etc. as well. Also, make sure that the page is the size of your selected button, with "Edit/Resize Page to Selection".

If that doesn't work, attach the button here and we can take a look at it. A report will include it, just let us know what button to look at.

Here is the info. The Button I am working on is Aux3. I still need to rename and clean up that part, but I have also included screen shots. If I center the text in inkscape, the button doesn't come out right in cn12. I can cheat and off center it to make it look right, but I would rather get it the right way. There is another button called clearxyz that is off center and the button looks ok. I have several to do, and hate to cheat my way through it. They are saving as inkscape svg and there are other options.

It should work perfectly for you it you select the text and do "Path/Object to Path", set white for fill, center to page both ways for "spoil", group "flycut" and "board", center to page both ways, ungroup, and save.

Depending on your browser, you can quickly preview it by right click and open with. For example, Edge browser opens it and shows it offset as before without any edits and good afterwards.

Edited to say....Text generally needs be changed to a path with "Object to Path" for it to work best.

I was able to get that to work on my copy. The path/object, doesn't make sense, but it does work.
Thanks

I use Adobe Illustrator for button design and I have to save the button text as outlines or it does not work either. When saving the button there's a box to check in Illustrator to "convert to outlines" which does the same thing that Scott mentioned.

all fonts have to be converted to lines and arcs.

use "covert to outline" in Ai,

and object to path in Inkscape.

the VCP does not support fonts in .svg files , as per vcp manual page. 38
