So what did you do to make it worse? The first thing to do would be to undo that.

Always eliminate mechanical first as they are easiest to diagnose.
Do each of these in order and write down results

Unbolt motors from their mounts, pull out of spider coupler, set on pad and see if the motors operate from VCP when disconnected from the ballscrews
If one works and not the other, swap the working motor to the nonworking wires and see if that works.
Using fingers, rotate the ballscrews thru full range of motion to ensure proper motion and check for binds
With motors off, move both carriages thru full range of motion by hand to check for binds

I have an idea you can try. Switch the z and Y step and pulse wires on the acorn system. If the problem moves to the Y then it might be the board. If the problem stays with the Z it is a problem with your z. You might have to tweak the settings to match, but it would be a pretty quick test to try.

I did that! We switched motors and the problem stayed with the z.

Ordered a new board, would love to have it checked but according to Centroid , I have to destroy it to get shipped a new one per their website.

Not understanding the reasoning when you are trying to understand what happened if it is a board issue and what needs to happen so it doesn’t repeat itself.

System is on multiple surge protectors, 3 to be exact! Main, Shop and a line specific for CNC.

Can’t afford all the down time so will destroy! Not a fan!

I did not mean to switch motors. I mean switch step and direction signals with a different axis. Switch step direction from axis three and axis 4. This way it uses everything on your z system with a different step and direction output that is working on the other axis. If the problem stayed with the z, most likely your z on the machine is the problem. I doubt if anything is wrong with the board. I know you think it is bad, but when you replace the board and have the same problem, maybe you will try my idea. Good luck with it.
