z AXIS ISSUE

Post by JerryLouisMartin »

My Z axis will not function correctly, it stalls and fails to move when given the Command from the program.

Will move when I home it or when I give the command on the computer screen or MPG?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

It would help greatly if you could post a recent report from your machine as well as a copy of the program that causes your Z axis to stall and fail to move. Without those things, we are just guessing at what your problems might be.

If my machine were moving manually but not under program control, the first thing I would look at would be if there was a difference in the speed the two different moves were being made. Is the programed move causing problems a rapid move, while the jog moves are occurring at the slow jog rate? If so, it could be that your drives cannot handle the fast acceleration required of a G0 rapid move. You said it is stalling. Are the drives showing an error code? Do you have the error signal from your drives connected to the Acorn? Does your Z-axis move freely if you turn the ballscrew by hand or is it binding? When you give the command on the computer screen, do you mean you are pushing the jog buttons on the VCP, or are you entering a movement command (G0, G1) from the MDI command line?
Cheers,

Tom

Z axis will move by hand when the machine is off, on will bind and not move!

VCP , z will jog!

It’s not a program issue I believe because no matter what file are loaded or program , the z will not move!

I will post the report!

I know it can be frustrating. You say it works when you give the command on the computer screen, but there are different commands that can be used. What exactly are you using that works, and what exactly is your program giving it? If you are trying to run a cutting file when it messes up, please post that cutting file or at least a good size sample of it.

The report will show info on the max speeds it is set for and error logs.

everything in that report was over the span of one hour this morning. There was no historical data to help diagnose the problem, although I do see the Z axis working correctly for homing so it does appear to work under program control.

As to why it's not working, the only thing that I notice is that the Z axis rapid move rate is 300 in/min while the fast jog is only 150. My guess is that your motors do not have enough torque to accelerate the Z to 300 in/min with a coarse 10mm pitch ballscrew when they get a G0 rapid move in a program. When jogging from the VCP, they are only moving at 150IPM.

Restoring the report you uploaded this morning will undo changes made to CNC12. If you made any changes to the motor drivers, it will not be able to reverse them.
