Help converting a older Techno cnc mill

Post by marc3909 »

Looking to convert this mill over to Acorn controller. I was pretty sure I had to get rid of the DC servos. I am not sure if I should go with some sort of hybrid stepper or servos. Mostly going to be making signs and some aluminum parts. The spindle is 5hp atc. Any obvious pointers would be welcomed, I am new to cnc.Image

Looks like a cool project you got there!

You could reuse the DC servos if you wanted, but with the cost of hybrid steppers and AC servos is often the same cost or cheaper to replace them and will deliver better performance. If use did reuse them, I would recommend buying new DC drives to work with the Acorn. If you replace the old motors, make sure you size the new motors accordingly.

I am thinking changing them would be the best option for me. Any go to places for sourcing hybrid steppers?

I am going to give them a call for sizing advice.
