best setting for C86 board

I have just installed the C-86 board on my Acorn. Apparently there are two settings that have to do with the alarm system on the clearpath motors.
Each axis has a "Hard - Soft" setting that determins whether the motor reacs to hardware of software changes. There is also an Acorn on off setting which relates to how the board will handle alarms from the motors.
What is the best way to leave these settings when I am done tuning?
