Ball screw mapping on a lathe

Post by Clausing2020 »

How would you use ball screw mapping on the x axis on a lathe. The tables are set up for 1/2” increments but on the x when you put in a 1/2” move it only move a 1/4”. How do you handle that situation.

Thanks John

Ok I changed it to diameter so at least it matches the table. When I make changes to the table it does not change my movements they are still the same as if I did not enter in any changes. I do have it turned on for the x axis

When a lathe moves 1/2" it removes 1" of material. Could that be why?

Hello,

Ensure you have enabled Screw Comp in the motor menu, Setup (F1) > Config (F3) > Mach. (F2) > Motor (F2). The "Screw Comp" Column should have "Y" for the axes you would like to apply your compensation table to.

Compensation table is based on your travel limits in machine position. In diameter mode, the X will travel half as far with a command. (So 1 will only move 0.5). If your travel limit was 0 to 5 inches in X,then you would want to command X10 to reach the "5" position mark in the compensation table for example (In machine coordinates). Use Alt-D on the main menu to switch your DRO to machine coordinates for the compensation tables may also help.

I would recommend setting the X in radius mode for the compensation table, then switching it back to diameter mode after for simplicity.

Hello every one I did switch my machine to radius mode to try to get this M comp to work. Do not know what is happening. The machine goes the same distance with the comp on or off. I will send a new report.

There are no corrections in 000compX.out , so what should change?

Did I shoot the wrong one? I'm only trying .5 and 1.0 and 1.5 If I turned it back off on the axis does it still show up on the report. It is moving but not what it should be according to corrections. the one says -.003 when I run it it stays it stays back .009 I just don't get what it is doing

How do you find that in the report?? I would like to know.

You have a file 000compX.out in your cnct folder, there are the corrections stored.

You also run 4.62 current version is 4.82
