Tracking comm issues

Post by lavrgs »

I've had a couple of communicaion errors over the last few days si I went to the mill (Tree J325) to start investigating...on startup I got this
IMG_3331.jpg
So off to a great start..
Yesterday I ran the stress test a couple times without any errors detected. I do suspect that my touch probe may be part of the problem - it's a Drewtronics S5000LED. It is wired to a panel of the back of my control box via a 3 pin microphone connector. Inside the box it is wired to a dpdt switch - non of the wires inside the box are shielded. The box contains an HP Elitedesk mini computer, the monitor and EMO wiring.
I reran the stress test a couple times while wiggling the probe and again while pressing the tool touch off pad and still did not get errors.
I would appreciate any suggestions about how to track down the comm errors
I could get a shorter ethernet cable, as the original is coiled up inside my main cab.

Also got 201 exiting due to known error in the error log

windows probably turned on the firewall/virus after an update.
there have been some recent additions to the CNCPC setup instructions related to com issues. re-review tb270, refresh see see latest.

IS TB270 Rev 7 the latest?
The trouble with problems is when you look for them, they are not there....

yes on rev7
if you have exhausted all the details in this thread.
https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=1451
its possible but rare that the ethernet adapter on the BBG is bad. happens 1 out of 1000
most of the time its one of the items on the list in the thread.

An intermittent issue is the hardest to diagnose, but it does eliminate firewall issues. If the firewall is blocking the software/control it would always fail. Is the original Shielded Ethernet Cable being used? Are any other programs running while CNC12 is trying to start? Your CPU meets the minimum specs, but the specs are also only based on only CNC12 running.

If this continues I can TeamViewer in and see if there is anything possibly suspect PC side.

Yes the original ethernet cable is being used. On CNC12 startup there are no other programs running. After startup, the computer may have a windows explorer window open, as I use a network drive for transferring programs, there may be a browser window running.
What prompted the focus to reduce noise issues started when a part's second op was offset from the origin...this could have been operator error but I had been receiving 452 errors, which was new.

It would be great to have a second set of eyes look at my PC setup.

I know I always show up with the same advice, but 2 times this solved my issue - new shielded ethernet cable. Totally worth a try considering its 2 connectors to swap.

This morning I got this message again... 2 times.
IMG_3331.jpg
Something has changed. New ethernet cable on order.
UPDATE COMMUNICATION IS DOWN
I checked the Acorn power supply, and the voltage was 23.7 so I adjusted it to 24...I have a heartbeat ...the firewall is off
I can ping to the outside world but not to 10.168.41.2
I will check the computer IP address. I’m starting to think it changed
