Issue: Relay Board Unresponsive

Post by allmondmarine »

Hi,
I reviewed the first 40 pages of search returns under "relay" and didn't see my issue. Apologies if it has already been answered.

I was running a program I had run before, and I heard my spindle and my coolant system turn off (the two things I'm controlling with the relay board). Upon opening my cabinet, I could see that my X and Y axes had faulted out (as a result of the spindle turning off and the tool crashing). I attempted to manually turn the spindle on, and it would not. I attempted to turn the coolant on, and it would not.

I was able to get the spindle and coolant to function after I did a power cycle on the Acorn board. I then ran the same program again. It ran all the way through; I was not able to get this issue to repeat.

Clearly this isn't something I want to happen again. The problem is, I don't know what caused this issue. I'm posting here in hopes that someone may be familiar with this "glitch" and may know how to prevent it.

Kind Regards,

Chris

after a fault, it is required to cycle the reset button to clear the fault, only then will things like the spindle turn on etc..

Thank you cnckeith. It's good to know I don't have to power cycle the board to reset this fault.

Can you offer any guidance on how to diagnose the source of the relay board fault?

without knowing more information about the cnc control build that would be just guessing. post fresh report.zip , photos etc.. to provide at least basic information about your machine/project. :D

I just experienced a similar issue. I noticed that one of the end connectors on the ribbon cable was not seated properly. Worked like a charm after I reseated the terminal.

Thanks cncckeith.

I've attached a report.zip and a picture of my control cabinet.

The 25v power supply of course runs the Acorn board and powers control signals

The 36V power supply runs the CL57T's for the X and Y Axis

The 60V power supply is dedicated to the CL86T, which is the Z axis driver.

I have found that the ribbon cable is very fragile. I would consider inspecting the connectors on both ends for damage.

after checking ribbon cable, make sure you don't have output forced in OFF position as well.

After running without issue for several hours. This issue has reappeared. Thankfully I was able to catch the machine this time before it crashed. I saved a report immediately after the incident this time.

Hi, I hope someone can help with this. It's not a comfortable feeling knowing your mill might turn the spindle off in the middle of a program. Are there instructions on how I might read the files in this report for clues?
