Hey Y’all! Greetings from the U.K.

I currently have a Denford 3Axis CNC Mill running Acorn. This Mill is unfortunately Mechanically beyond repair.

I have a Hardinge HXL CNC Lathe that I’m
Hoping to retrofit using the Acorn system from the Mill. Now where I’m stumped is if possible I want to use the Spindle Motor already fitted to the Lathe, from what I can see it is a Braked DC Motor. My mill is using I’m assuming a small AC Motor and VFD Setup.

Some advice on this will be greatly appreciated! The Acorn mill I bought rather than built so it’s a big learning curve for me

As long as the spindle drive on your lathe can accept a 0-10VDC signal for speed, you should have no problems controlling it with an Acorn. You will need to purchase the appropriate lathe software license depending on the lathe features you will need.

Thank you! Any ideas How would I go about testing this?

Locate the make and model of the spindle drive controller and post the manual. We'll look at the manual and have a pretty good idea if it will work.
Cheers,
