Strange probing behavior

Post by Dbean »

Hey everyone!
I’ve searched the boards for probing error topics but can’t find one for my specific issue. I’m not getting an error message which makes it more difficult. I’m including a photo for reference. It’s an intermittent issue and I haven’t pinned down what is causing the issue.
This happens when probing and tool setting. 90% of the time the error will appear and not affect the measurement. Screen errors out and continues like nothing happens.
It’s a fresh copy as I recently set up the machine.
Probe is an eBay mechanical probe NC and same with the tool setter. Both are quite accurate considering the price. I can repeat a dowel probing cycle in 0.0002”
Any ideas where to start?
I ran a probing cycle earlier and CNC12 completely crashed. No error. First time I’ve seen it crash. I’ve been using my centroid lathe for a few years now.

Do you have enough Z travel left to make the retract move?
Cheers,

Same exact thing happened to me, with the garbled tool height page, just like you displayed. Only fix was to do a fresh install.

Looks like a screen imaging problem to me but can't be sure.

Check your drivers for both Monitor and Display adapters are up to date. Importantly, post a current report.zip so we can help further

thanks for reporting,
can you explain the steps to get to this point and please post a fresh report.zip so we can investigate. thanks, -k

So, I guess you can call me crazy! I restarted the PC again, standard Windows fix. I went through 11 tool setting cycles, and probed my vise a couple times... I can't replicate the error now. I was taking video through all of this... I'm hoping the bug has been squashed.
This was happening intermittently but I would get the error when probing to establish the offsets for a workpiece. I would jog to the right location, check that the probe works and run the Web Probing cycle. It would give me the error on the screen and would clear when I backed out to the previous screen. It didn't affect the measurement. No more than the 0.0002" accuracy this little machine gets. This error was also occurring in the Tool Library Offsets page. I would again jog to the right location, pick the tool I wanted to check the offset, Green button x2 and it would run the tool check cycle. Again, it wouldn't have any affect on the measurement.
It concerned me when Centroid CRASHED! I've never had my centroid lathe software crash. It's running on the same PC. Yes, I have both Lathe and Mill on one PC but these are second op machines and I can't run them at the same time since they are very short cycle times.
I went ahead and posted the report.zip file as well.
If the gremlin returns I'll be sure to post an update.
Thanks for the fast replies!

Just out of curiosity, does it make a difference if you leave the Alt-i display up on the main screen when you go to the Offset Library to measure tools?

My obsrevation to this issue:

https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 4&start=80

But I can not get CNC12 to crash, only the display is "clutterd"

I agree with this. I didn't find this one in my early search. Since there is no real error code generated it was shooting in the dark. I didn't load up a program when I was setting tool heights earlier and didn't get the error. I will try to load up a program and try setting offsets and tool heights again tomorrow and report back.

Same problem I had with the mill software. It will crash again in due time.
