Spindle encoder issues

Post by mcbr549 »

Acorn board 0C1C571289B6-0526203333
Schematic 15033 - Stepperonline CL86Y
Spindle encoder Calt GH538 2000 PPR
I mounted the encoder on the side of the head of my PM25 mill with timing pulleys and belt with a 1 to 1 ratio
I had to splice a piece of cable to the original cable on the encoder for enough length to get to the control. All the wires are the same color with the exception of one so I used blue in the place of gray at the 10 pin connector. I pinged each wire to make sure the connection was good.
Set up the spindle in the Wizard.
Plugged the 10 pin on the board
Started the software and it would not connect.
went back and checked everything and it looked good. Still would not connect
I unplugged the 10 pin and it connects. With the 10 pin in, the ethernet is dead. Pull it out and it connects.

Pictures and report attached.

Any information would be awesome.

Mike

Don't know your encoder wiring but suggest checking your wiring with my pics.

Sounds like you shorten something if the encoder is plugged in.

Check the wiring and make sure only the cable shield is connected to the DB9 housing.

the wire colors mean nothing and every manufacture uses different color combos

reference the wire color code printed on the side of the encoder or in its tech sheet
then compare that to acorns published DB9 pinout and make sure they match

Here is the acorn pinout

What is the other end of the larger yellow wire connected to pin 2 connected to?
Cheers,

Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.
