If the stepper drives were working when connected to the terminals and not when you selected DB25 then the Enable signals need inverted when using the DB25. On these, like most stepper drives, the "Enable" signal is actually a disable signal. So if you selsct DB25 and want to use the enable signals then go to the "Advanced" tab under the "Axis" menu in the wizard and check the Enable boxes under "Axis Signal Inversion".

New Drives and Motors are in and installed. All 4 turn on command. Limit switches report by axis when tripped.
Image

New (to me) CNC PC arrived today but arrived damaged. So delayed on that. Have my Pro license ready for when I have that in place.
Image

Thats pretty much it for wiring and the board. Only have to set up the VFD now before I can install the board on the bench. Time to start researching VFD menu settings.... :(
Thx
Ian

Another weekend update...

Time to mount the motors and run the wires for them and the proximity switches.
Image

Motors installed and switches in place waiting for some new 12mm brackets before I can mount the switches to the frame.
Image

Bench testing the spindle and getting it all set up in the SW.
Image

Board complete. All the wiring I can do off the machine and all bench tests done. Motors work, switches work and spindle works on the bench.
Image

Board finally installed on the machine!!
Image

Time to route more wires.
Image
Image

Everything is long enough (small sigh of relief).
Image

Starting to look something like my design maybe?
Image
Image
Image
Image

Picked up the MDF for my spoilboard and the ply for the sides, top and front of the control box. Can't find 4'x4' boards anymore so I guess I will have plenty of spare MDF.
Image

Thats it for this weekend.
Thx
Ian

Update

Had some time this week to work on the machine. Got the power wired up on the bench.
Image

E-Stop fitted to the machine.
Image

Sourced another new (to me) CNC PC. Local this time so I could pick it up and avoid the shipping damage that killed the last one. This one is a Dell Optiplex 7440 All in One. i5-6500, 8Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD and a built in 24" Touchscreen. Seems to work fine so far.
Image

It moves! X, Y and Z Axis all move to MDI commands.

Gotta admit, seeing it move was pretty cool!
Thx
Ian

If I stand at the front of the machine. Home is at the back left side with the Z Axis fully raised (Kinda where it is in the pic above but that's from the back and the Z isn't fully up). Assume I set this as home and zero the machine out here.

Y Travel should be positive when coming towards me and negative when going away (Never gets into a minus number)?
X Travel should be positive when moving right and negative when moving left (Never gets into a minus number)?
Z Travel should be negative going down and positive going up (Never gets to positive number as zero is at the top)?

Does this sound right?
Thx
Ian

Long weekend update.

Brackets for the Home Switches came in so those are now installed.
Image

Had to 'MacGyver' a flag for the Z Home Switch as I didn't have any sheet material on hand. Will get some and make a proper flag, but this is working great for now.
Image

Slave Axis Sitch is installed but I'm not happy with this method of mounting being able to be accurate enough and repeatable for the Gantry Squaring. Have a better idea on this and the Y Axis mounting that I can measure and adjust better. So 'more' brackets needed.. :) I will defer the Auto squaring until I 'fix' this. Auto homing is set up and working great. Park also set up and macro adjusted.
Image

Board turned into bit of a a rat's nest while hooking everything up to test and configure it.
Image

Cleaned that up and put everything in its final place on this side.
Image

Ran the spindle cable and cooling lines through the machine.
Image

Routed in and hooked it up at the VFD.
Image

Installed the outlet for the Dust Collection, Spindle Cooling Pump and Mist Pump. These are all switched by the Acorn Output board individually. I will run another supply line for them though.
Image

Installed a mount for the CNC PC. Decided it's not going to work though as it doesn't clear the Gantry when it's in that corner. So will get an 'Arm' type to get it further out of the way. It lives here for now though.
Image

The design of the machine 'wastes' a lot of available travel on the Y axis.
Image

So built a bed extension to take advantage of the otherwise wasted 4" of travel.
Image

MDF cut for the 2 layers of the spoilboard.
Image

That gives me a surface to dial in the axis travel. X and Y the same and both were spot on out of the box (benefits of running it in Metrix with metric Ballscrews maybe?). Soft limits set and working great.
Image

MacGyver time for the Z axis again though.
Image

I'm hunting down a consistent set of 452 and 944 errors. Knee deep in TB 270 and routing the Acorn Supplied Cable direct from Board to PC not through or near anything else. Not got rid of it yet though. AV is Off, Firewall is off, PC and Acorn direct connected via onboard NIC. All Win 10 settings updated per Acorn recommendations, etc. It's pretty much either the cable or still something in the PC, but not found it yet.
Image
Image
Image

Will just have to keep hunting until I find it and it can pass the Comms stress test.

Thats it for progress this week.
Thx
Ian
