Probing gets interrupted sometimes <resolved>

Post by bbatarelo »

Greetings all,

Sometimes I have probing issue in a sense that after a 2nd (slow) touch off machine just stops and I need to push the Start button in order for it to proceed. It happens on all axes, but more often on on x/y. Other than that machine works really well and, it's a quality German made mini mill (Wabeco) with ballscrews and linear guides, nothing is binding and actually it is very, very easy to move.
- Head has a counter weight from factory.
- Everything is Teknic Clearpath servo sized (and a bit oversized) by their support guy.
- Servos have been autotuned (with no load on milling table)
- Wiring is avoided by using C86ACCP
- probe is from Centroid

Report is attached, here's a video I made last night:

Sometimes probing halts like this more then once per hole. Rarely I get probing error when that happens.

I remember I was having these problems even before switching from steppers.

If there's anything else I can provide you with, shoot!

Thanks,
Bruno

For some reason I can't see your video. First thing I would suspect though is electrical noise. Is your probe cable shielded and the shield grounded at one end?

It's definitely an electrical noise issue. Your log file is filled with PC resends and it's been this way since March of 2021. Post a link to your Google photo album showing your electrical cabinet and wiring.

First, two suggestions, set your monitor screen resolution to 1920x1080 as recommended by Centroid and update your CNC12 software to 4.80 so we are all using the same software and can help you.

Lot of resends are the main reason when probing hangs...

So, not sure what's with video - it's on google drive. You can click on that corner thing and google will offer you to download it.

Here are photos of the mill and cabinet (from several Clearpath upgrade phases). Hover over photo as file name that pops up also tells a story.

There are two 24V Meanwell power supplies: one for Acorn, one for everything else as suggested
Teknic power supply for Clearpaths is on the left - all power connections are OEM supplied, everything is grounded
220V (EU) line is in the left and topmost channels separated from 24V lines.
Yellow lines are 24V
Black Com
Yel/Grn Ground

All communication lines are short and go from C86ACPP to grounded XLR connectors on the cabinet chassis.

Intel NUC has its own power supply plugged into 220V outlet within cabinet.
Nuc and Acorn are connected with shortest possible SFTP ethernet cable

Spindle VFD is on the mill itself on top of the motor far away from everything and connected to cabinet with shielded (grey) cable. Everything is grounded.

All this was done so that servo drives and VFD be as far as possible from the cabinet itself.
If you have suggestions for tracing the electrical noise down, I'm open to suggestions. I have oscilloscope at disposal.

I will upgrade to latest CNC12 today. As for screen, it has native full HD (1920x1080) resolution which is also set in Windows. On any other res CNC12 looks weird.
Also, where in a report can I see those network retransmissions?

I'm just going by what your report says and suggesting 1920x1080 as that's Centroid recommends for best resolution. Your report shows your screen resolution to be set at 1280x720.

You can view your error log by opening CNC12 and pressing F7, F9 and then F1.

As for the noise, I always recommend shielded wire to the motors and drives and in your case shielded wire to the Clearpath motor with no bulkhead connectors. Every time you break a wire for any connector you risk introducing noise.

Your power wiring between the drivers and motors needs to be shielded. You step and direction wiring between the Acorn and the motor drives should also be shielded.
Cheers,

Tom

You can run stresstest.cnc if you have updatet to 4.80

This will show you if the connection ist ok or not.

If your PC have an Intel Network chip, is needs some changes in the advanced setting to get rid of resends.

as pointed out the error log shows there is a complete failure of the communications between Windows and Acorn.

see this post....How to solve com errors.
