Lost PWM Output to VFD Paramaters Gone in Wizard

Post by PFM Dave »

Hello All,

Well Have not needed to post before today. My setup is an Acorn setup on a Stepper Motor upgrade to a Bridgeport Boss. It has been running OK for over a year now. Upgraded to 4.80 in late August had a few minor issues but back up and running. I was adding a touch probe and a tool setter this past week and to my surprise the System Setup was not available in the Wizard, searched the forum found the "solution" and un-selected custom setup, had access no problem. Working on the probe routines never ran the main mill spindle motor. Yesterday went to make a test part no spindle motor.... hummmm

Ok troubleshooting 101... reset everything no faults try again nothing, no error codes on VFD, the probe sense is NOT active (should lock out the motor) no luck. Next step is the VFD output coming on, DVM says no voltage. Opened the Wizard is says no PWM active, select to turn it on. Nothing....

Ok restore a report, thinking that should do it. Nope still nothing. Restored a backup... Nothing. The motor was 100% setup and running not really looking to re-calibrate everything can someone here give me some good news? Reports and backup files from before and today are attached as I get that they are needed to help.

Thanks in advance,

PFM Dave

Dave,
hello.

pwm? are you using a VFD to run the spindle motor?

what do you mean by system setup missing in the Wizard?

Keith,

Thanks for looking and all the others as well. Yes using the PWM output to control spindle speed via the VFD. All was working until this last few days trying to get the touch probe and tool setter up and running. So in the Wizard I look in Spindle/PWM Setup and question 1 is PWM Enabled No in RED. I did not change this setting I know how much work it was to get it all dialed in. I am asking is there a file from my backup folder that will fix this trouble? I tried a report restore no change and tried a restore backup no change.

I am ok on a PC so moving files is no problem just no idea where this information lives.

Thanks in advance,

does the VFD accept 0-10?

Yes it does and was working fine. Even rigid tapping etc.

ok, im confused, is the VFD using PWM or 0-10 analog out for the S command?

I am confused too.
Connector H8 Analog Out 0 to 10 VDC.

So the direction relay activates when I manually command the spindle to run but the H8 output is zero VDC. No error code is present on the VFD

Sorry if I was confused too.

ok.. you were talking about PWM which is different that 0-10 VDC analog output. which got me confused..all good now...

disconnect the analog 0-10 connections from Acorn and re run the spindle bench test program and follow the instructions in the manual on the spindle bench test and report back.

Keith,
Thanks for the reply. So.... I restored the 4.8 version still no 0 to 10 Volt output. Took screen captures of all the Wizard settings. Installed 4.12 lost EVERYTHING again. Did all the data entry in the Wizard still no 0 to 10 volt output so no spindle motor. Did the spindle bench test as you suggested above, on start up it said setup started incomplete, never started this, tried to continue but error-ed out. Started again and ran without trouble, reconnected the VFD and have spindle control once again.

I saw on the Facebook group this AM this exact thing happened, lost 0-10 volt output, to another Centroid Acorn user. I am happy to have the upgrade completed and the machine back up and running however I did not expect the upgrade to break this much stuff.

Still thanks for the help you provided.

Regards,

PFM Dave

You can't use "restore report" from version v4.12 to v4.8.

Take screenshots of the wizard in 4.12. install 4.8 clean (Do not use restore report) then hand enter all the config information in the new wizard by copying it from the old wizard screenshots you made this only takes about 5 minutes or less. Make sure you hit write settings to CNC control and follow the instructions on the screen. Make any other adjustments you need as the new wizard has a lot of new features.

We put a lot of time and energy into our software and the new version doesn't break anything from the old version. All the features in the old version are still there. Some of them have been improved and many new features have been added. :D
