AllIn1DC is an All-in-one controller for DC servos. It contains the servo amplifiers on-board, hence the All-In-One designation. It has 6 encoder ports and an option to add 6 more with the EncExp board. The Oak is the comparable board for AC/DC servos with external amplifiers.

If you have stepper motors, then the Acorn is what you want. The AllIn1DC or Oak will not work.

ive got old steppers but after talking with dmm and seeing that a servo kit is only 1800 ill go with the servos . now dmm reccommended going with the acorns controller . hate to sound stupid but what is the purpose of an encoder?

The encoder provides the control with position feedback. With the Acorn, you can run the DMM servos in open-loop mode with the Acorn providing step and direction to the servo driver and the encoder feedback going to the servo driver. The servo driver would then be responsible to notifying the Acorn that the drive has a position error. With this setup, you cannot move the motors manually - all movement must be done by the CNC control.

With an Oak, the servo driver passes through the encoder feedback to the Oak control creating a true closed loop positioning system. With this method, you can retain manual control of the machine (by turning the handles on the machine) as well as have full CNC control.
Cheers,

post photos of the machine you are buying and we can give you some better advice on which way to go.
make google photo album and post link here, that way all your project photos will be in one spot, one link etc.. forever.

https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipN ... SsJd7_-q0r theres the link to my google photo, was looking at getting the 86m-dht-a6mk1 servo motors from dmm , they are 0.75kw ,was told they might be under powered for this machine but of course the sales man says theyll be just fine

link is bad.
750 watt is just fine for a 5 turns per inch knee mill.
