Strange loss of position? < operator error>

Post by dmbgo »

When machining things on the lathe, I have always been impressed by the consistency of the Acorn system, particularly regarding the diameters and lengths of jobs.
Today, however I had a strange thing happen. I was making a batch of bolts for a project and I considered this fairly easy - get things right once, then just repeat the same job until I had enough made.
This worked as it said on the box, until suddenly I noticed the lathe cutting fairly deeply at the start of a repeated job - on the first cut. "That must be just me" I thought and allowed the job to finish.
Upon completion, the screw looked small, and when I compared it to one with the correct dimensions the error was obvious.
Somewhere along the line, the X axis must have lost steps - somehow. I have servo motors and encoders on the lathe axis - there was no error from the servo controllers. The Acorn controller uttered no complaints either.
The results, however tell a different story.

Not enough information to help you.

I never had a case Acorn doing such strange things.

Connection from servo to ballscrew could be slipping.

DriveOK not wired correctly

ALM output of the servo is with to much range to switch

Error in G-Code

Thanks Uwe,
Actually I think now, that it was caused by the operator (me). I think, when I corrected the X axis position slightly, I may have made a mistake by a factor of 10. Sorry to waste your time. :).
