Acorn reading spindle speed 4times faster than it should be <answered>

Post by rk9268vc »

Just got a new encoder installed 1:1 with the spindle.
Changed the ppr in wizard to match encoder.
CNC12 says spindle is turning 4 times faster than it actually is.
Go to mdi and say m3s3000 and cnc12 says 12000 rpm. Tachometer says 3000rpm.
what am i missing?
Thanks

Here is the Encoder

If I just change the wizard to say 4096 ppr then it works great, within a few rpm of spindle. doesnt feel right tho

A 1,000 line encoder has 4,000 pulses!

So whatever line encoder you have, enter 4 times that number in acorn.

Most encoder literature specifies PPR (aka CPR or lines).
Centroid settings are in counts (PPR x 4).

I know that feeling to update a running system feels scary.

But believe me it will not hurt even on the first time, it is easy and after getting used to it, it is a 2min task :D

You can loose nothing, make a backup and rename your cncm folder after making screenshots from each Wizard page.

Follow the instructions and you are running in short time.
Have your license and ProbeApp installer ready.

If you have problems, rename the cncm folders and go on with the old version till problems are solved.

4.80 is the better version, it pays off to update.

I recommend upgrading, I did so the past month after the original from 2018. I was apprehensive but boy it worked out just fine. I did as described above and it really was effortless. I ended up doing my tools over but I had to do maintenance on them anyway, so it worked out. I had a bunch of tasks that needed to be done but it was worth the effort to upgrade.
