Unexpected tool check behaviour?

Post by ExEuclid »

I'm on the latest version of CNC12, according to the manual using tool check while a program is running should halt the program and raise to Z home. I've used it before and it worked as expected but today I was running a deep drilling cycle created with Intercon and hit tool check because some long chips were piling up and hitting the coolant nozzle. It halted the program but stopped the spindle inside the hole without raising Z and I had to manually jog it up afterwards. Is there an issue with using tool check inside a canned cycle?

I have just tested this on my mill with Acorn 4.80, works perfect, both while drilling or rapid retract, ToolCheck stops program and goes to G28 position. Hit Cycle Start and the program continues.

Post a current report from your machine so we can better understand what’s going on. Also post a pic of your control cabinet and wiring.

I'll do some more testing tomorrow to see if I can duplicate the issue and grab a report and picture. I wouldn't expect it to be a wiring issue because the machine is accurate and runs well so far but who knows.

ToolCheck returns to G28 position, if G28 is not set to Z0 it will not return to Z0

Uwe, are you sure about this? On a router I have when I press tool check it stops and moves the Z axis up to machine Z0. It does not move in X or Y to G28 and I have G28 programmed to be the front center of the table for a manual tool change position. I don't use tool check that often but it's always just stopped and moved Z to G53 Z0 position. I guess one could program "tool check" to move to a programmed position but on my two routers it just stops and moves Z to the top.

Yes, If I have Z-20 in G28WCS Toolcheck moves to Z-20 on my mill

I use this to save time :D

Tool Check (on a Mill) moves the Z axis to the G28 position. It does not move any other axes.

So it's different on a mill and a router. I have a router with G28 (return #1) coordinates set for a manual tool change position, X is 36, Y is 2 and Z is 0. When I press tool check it only raises Z to Z0 and stops and does not move to X or Y that is set in G28.

try hitting cycle pause before hitting tool check. Also, it wont stop if in the middle of a canned cycle, like a tapping op.
