old problem resurfaced: jumping cursor (SOLVED)

Post by RGSparber »

This problem went away for over a year but is back again. I put the cursor on a spot on the CNC12 screen and after a random time ranging from a few seconds to 2 minutes, it jumps someplace else. Sometimes it is so bad that I can't enter a number more than a few digits.

When I am in the Wizard window, I can leave the cursor in the same spot for over an hour and it doesn't move. So it isn't a hardware problem.

I've brought CNC12 and Win10 up to date.

I did go back to the screen saver parameters but didn't find anything to turn off that helped.

The report will look strange because I am installing new leadscrews and starting to adjust revs/inch for X and Y.

Any suggestions on where to look or tests to perform?

Thanks,

Rick

Are you using a touchscreen? If so, which one?

Gary,

Thanks for the response. It is an ASUS VT207N. I totally missed the fact that it could be sending spurious cursor moves to the PC!

Fifteen minutes ago I unplugged its USB cable and the cursor has not jumped yet. I'll wait another 45 minutes before getting out the champagne.

If this display's digitizer is the problem after 4 years of service, could it be anything but hardware starting to fail? I've got nothing to lose so will do a factory reset assuming the cursor doesn't start jumping again. I'll also inspect the screen for swarf.

I'll report back.

Rick

Gary,

Once again the answer is easy; the question is hard.

No jumps for about an hour. I cleaned the screen, reset the display, plugged the usb back in. I’ll wait another hour to see if it acts up. If not, I’ll get back to my ballscrews. If the problem returns, I’ll unplug that usb right away.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick....
FYI...ALL of the consumer grade multi touch monitors I have owned have failed, except the one on my lathe, which is seldom used. None of the resistive units have failed....yet

Gary,

With the display’s digitizer connected, no cursor jumps for the last hour. I’ll be ready if it acts up again.

Thanks,

Rick
PS: used machine all day with no problems. Call it solved. Don’t know if fix was restoring monitor to factory state or cleaning screen with glass cleaner.
