Connect a Lichuan LCDA357H driver to Acorn CNC

Post by Hugo Turn »

I am going to use Lichuan LCDA357H closed-loop drivers for a retrofitted lathe with Acorn CNC.
What is the recommended method to connect the drivers?
Acorn header connections or the Acorn DB25?

I attach a .pdf with the characteristics of the diver.

5V logic should be connected to DB25

Is it a connection scheme similar to the one attached (although this is for another driver)?

Hi Hugo, yes, it's similar to the diagram you posted. Start with the PUL and DIR connections only. You may not need the ENA line connected as the drive may be enabled by default. Start with ONE drive wired to the DB25 and get that ONE working. Then add a second and get that one working. Wire one at a time to be sure each one works on its own.

You can wire up the alarm signal later if you wish. I'd set the "Pulse/Rev" dip switches to 1600 or 3200 to get it working.

I have the LCDA357H connected to the header (not the DB25) and works fine. This is on a very early Acorn board so not sure if later boards have a limitation.

It would be interesting to know what are the advantages or disadvantages of connecting this driver to the headers (differential output) or to the DB25 (5V TTL)
