Tool OffSet Question

Post by rlaury »

Hi All:
I have a Precision Matthews PM728 VT with acorn 4 system installed. All of my offsets are referenced to the mill table from a 123 block.
I've installed a Saunders tooling plate 1" thick. I need to add some tools to my tooling library. Question is: Can I reference the added
tools to the top of the Saunders plate or do I need to take it off (Ugh!) and reference to the actual mill table? I'm not too clear on
how the system keeps up with all the offsets anyway.

Thanks
RonL

This depends on how you use Z-Reference.

But if you measure all tools and Z-Ref new on the tooling plate and keep this for future you are safe.

Thanks for the response.

Z ref is the mill table. Then I have to keep the 2 offsets in sync.

If the tool plate is 1", use an 1" block additional if you measure from the mill table without the tooling plate.

My understanding, and it seems to work for me, is that when using a "master tool" the height can be set on any surface and all the tools follow. Since my knee moves I always have to reset the master reference height. I use CAT40 holders.
watch this video on a PM-25MV for using the master tool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaErhFpQsAo&t=658s
