Acorn and Emcoturn 120 with 8-tools-turret

Hello guys,

my name is Marc, i live in germany and i own an mechanics-only Emco cnc-lathe, Emcoturn-120, that i want to retrofit.
I already built 2 cnc-routers and 1 cnc-mill with Mach3, EdingCNC, CNC-Graf and Beamicon2 (last 2 are german controllers). But none of them is good for lathe-use, so i came to Acorn.

But i have a question regarding especially the tool-turret:

Is it possible to drive this 8-tools-turret with acorn?
Now, there is a 24V-Motor mounted, that works like described here: https://emcocncretrofits.fandom.com/wik ... oolchanger

Will i be able to drive this machine with acorn only?

2 axis (CL-steppers or JMC-servos, i think), limit-switches and home-switches, 8-tools-turret, spindle-encoder (360ppr), vfd-spindle-motor (removed the DC-spindle-motor because no driver available for this in-line-shunt-motor with 7,5kW).

Maybe someone can give an estimate, if this could be possible with only the acorn.

Thank you very much and with best regards,

Marc

Hi Marc,

glad I could tease you to have a look at Centroid CNC.

Would be easy to fit Acorn in the EMCO, this is well documented here.

Hello again :-)

I am thinking about what CNCPC i should and could use.

So i had a look at good and still cheap CPUs in the benchmark-list, to reverse-search for possible touch-PCs.
Then i stumbled across an offer for some Dell-OptiPlex 7460 AllinOnePCs without CPU, RAM and base-mount, cheap. No problem to buy CPU and RAM, and as i want to mount it to the machine directly i also wouldn't need the base-mount.

But some online-resources say it is "multi-touch".

Does anyone know if "multi-touch" will work with CNC12 and Acorn?

these are popular.

what every you buy, make sure it meets the single thread bench mark minimum requirements found here.

The Thinkcentres I am using are also multitouch, works fine if you use only one finger :D

Thank you two!
The CPU i am looking for reaches 2000 points in the benchmark-list, so it should be good to go.

Buy CNCPC: ✅

Lenovo ThinkCentre M910z All-In-One PC with capacitive 24" Touchscreen, 1920x1080
Core i5 - 7500 4x 3400MHz
16GB RAM
250GB SSD
refurbished

250 bucks, from official dealer with guarantee 8-)

Got no foot, but thats no prob as i will mount it to the machine directly, anyway.
