Hey guys, this is my first project with Acorn, and my 2nd CNC build. First build was a basic openbuilds workbee with duet controller and lead screws, a far simpler undertaking than project 2.
The machine was modelled in fusion 360, constructed out of 40 series aluminum extrusion sourced from 80/20, with 20mm "hiwin" linear rails and 20mm ballscrews sourced from Fred @ BST automation (alibaba seller). 2010 screw on Z axis, 2020 on X and Y. model SDSK 3421p ELS nema 34 servos
Started the Mechanical build last week when our extrusion order showed up. The Frame went together fairly easily, though counts were a bit short on 16mm M8 bolts.
The aluminum plates for this project are being cut by a local friend on his mill. we had some difficulty finding someone to cut our parts, so the first few plates (y end plates) were painstakingly cut on the workbee, at the expense of much wd40 and a few bits. pics show the z axis body, still waiting on X plates, the X carriage interface plate, and the Z plate from our friend
While waiting on the remaining aluminum parts to be cut and ready for pickup, I started to assemble the control box
This is my first control box build. I'm certainly making some mistakes here. I chose 3 wire, NPN NC proximity switches (4mm sensing distance, flush, 12mm diameter, 65mm length from automation direct) for my home/limit switches. I reffered to these 2 diagrams when laying out my box
the plan is to install 4 xlr jacks on my control box for proximity switches, (currently shipping), 1 xlr jack for VFD 0-10v signal, and the clearpath logic and power will feed out of bulkhead fittings (1 per servo).
I'll keep this updated as I make progress, especially if I release any magic smoke. I will definitely be dropping in here for Control box questions before I make any moves towards powering the box up. Thanks for reading!
