New Build, PM2700 lathe with Acorn, Videos and Photos <upgraded to AC servos>
Started to convert my lathe to CNC
Spindle will be driven by a JMC 1.5kw Servo maybe with C-axis since I can switch the Servo from speed to position mode with an input
Z-axis also JMC Servo 0.4kw 220V
X-axis Stepperonline CL Stepper 4Nm
Late I will build me a 8 Station turret
First I had to make a spindle extension, to mount the beltdrive for the encoder, and anyway the original design with open spindle in the gearbox was crap.
Still waiting for the servos, but got the Acorn today and made the cabinet with the stuff I already have. Pretty easy as expected, simply following the manuals, and the X-axis ist working already.
When the cabinet ist completed I will make the brackets for the Servos and ball-screws. Hope to get this done in one weekend....

Re: New Build, PM2700 lathe with Acorn
Made the drawings for the parts I need to fit ballscrews in the lathe and well the best DIY CNC is nothing with a crappy machine, so i reworked the slides. They were fitted with an angle grinder and had lots of play. Machined them for a snug fit with the mill, scraping would habe been better, but to much effort for a hobby lathe. But well now it cuts of steel like a real lathe

Acorn mill builds Acorn lathe
Seems to be more time consuming than I thought. Made the parts for the X-axis stepper today and for holding the Z ballscrew nut.

Got both ballscrews fitted today, kind of tricky to make room for the X-axis nut, but works

right on! nice.
you should put all these photos in a google photo album and then keep adding to it as you go along.

Re: New Build, PM2700 lathe with Acorn
Started a google album for the new progress..
https://photos.app.goo.gl/w9edyv7sKFZWxopJ6
Had to fit the X-axis ballscrew with new balls, because I droped the Nut, not the funniest thing to do
Both axis installed now, but still waiting for the servos for the spindle an z-axis
