Display not right during bench test

Post by Leo Voisine »

I am doing the bench test. I installed the cnc12 per video instructions. I get to the point to press reset then cycle start, but the part of the display for the cycle start is just a tall very narrow gray vertical stripe on the left side of the screen. I thought the monitor may be a problem may be the issue so I tried a different monitor. Same issue. I tried different screen display resolutions. No change.

Any thoughts?

Keith I did all of the above with no change.

I think there is something wrong with my computer.
It needed to reboot for a windows update and would not reboot completely.
I gave up for the day.

I am thinking about installing a new fresh Windows 10 install, then starting over.

It’s best to do all windows updates BEFORE you setup up the PC for Acorn and then disconnect it from the internet. Then follow the setup instructions for setting up the PC and then install. This includes making sure you can display 1920x1080 as this works best for the VCP. You don’t need the PC doing anything else while it’s installing and configuring. This PC should be dedicated to controlling the machine only and not need full time internet access. I keep a USB Wi-Fi adaptor handy if I ever need internet access on my CNC PC, which is very rare.

Does your PC meet the minimum requirements? Post a report so we also see the PC specs and settings.

It is all over now.

The PC I was using has some issues that I have yet to solve.

I went to a different PC and started over.

Everything worked as it should work.

But I did notice something.

When installing CNC12 there were 3 choices --- MILL, LATHE, ROUTER.
I know what a lathe is - but what is the difference between MILL and ROUTER
I know what a mill is and I know what a route is, but does CNC12 care? Are there advantages in one over the other?
I have a Router.

The Router version has a custom VCP with controls tailored to router operation. There is no functional difference between mill and router other than the VCP. In fact, you can modify the mill VCP to duplicate the router VCP if you want.
