Wire are requirements

Post by Vwfan »

I’ve sourced everything except the mill which I’m waiting to show up.
Pm940 conversion using Acorn an clear path servos ,
Anyhow my question is instead of hunting down all kinds of separate wires as a wire the control panel can someone recommend what I should buy, so I can just buy it all at one time and have it ready and sit down and wire it. I know it’s all basically 22 to 12 gauge but do I need like TRx?tlx ? Or some other specific Wire and would I be safe and just ordering like 20 feet of each of it all as I’m doing is wiring the control box for the CNC conversion, Already have the Cables for the servos. Just looking for a recommendation on a bulk purchase I’m OK with a little extra to wire the box up, thank you for any and all your input and plan to take some pictures and log my journey. I literally have every piece of the puzzle in hand except for the wire, two of the breakers which I am probably going to need some help finding those. And a computer which I already know which one I’m gonna get to run it

I did a pm-30mv with clearpath conversion and here is my recommendations

Use Teknic's cables for the servos. You need not cut them
Use the CNC4PC breakout to plug the teknic cables right into acorn
https://www.cnc4pc.com/c86accp-clearpat ... oller.html

i got 20ga stranded wire in bulk from automation direct, and then used crimp on ferrules on all ends.

You can get shorter lengths of wire on amazon for less too, or by the foot from automation direct

I would recommend picking up a rotary disconnect for your on/off and an Estop button from automation direct as well

I used one of these deals for my Estop so i can hold it while it runs

For protection, i would recommend Eaton miniature circuit breakers instead of fuse holders. again from automation direct
Get a type B for your electronics, and a type C for the servo powersupply(s) [different trip curves]

Pick up some cable channel for wire management and some terminal blocks for your power rails

If you have any questions, feel free to dm me, good luck!

Any chance somebody can help me with the link to the 3-D printed file to attach the acorn to a din rail?

Yes that’s exactly what I’m looking for thank you very much I’m going to have a buddy start printing them. I think it’s almost about time for me to buy a 3-D printer used to produce small little things like this. What are some of the 3-D printer brands and models you all run

i made a din rail mount for both the acorn, releay board, and teknic power4Hub, its on my pc back at home so ill post it tonight for ya. Probably on thingiverse

3D Printers...

On the budget side, probably one of the various Creality Ender 3's(V2). Otherwise, Prusa printers are always highly rated.

If you want a workhorse, i would recommend the prusa mk3s kit for $750 +ship. It just works, no upgrades needed.
I have one myself, and 3 at my work. We have, no exaggeration, ran over 1000 rolls of filament through the 3 prusa's at my work. they run pretty much non stop for years.

I dont remember when I took this pic, but this is our newest one. it just does detailed fixtures so prints pretty slow.
