Leadshine Drivers & Acorn Header connections

I am planning to help a friend convert to Acorn. Is it acceptable to use the H1,H2,H3 header connections with his Leadshine 5056Es and feed +5VDC from the Acorn power supply to +Pul, +Dir, +Ena. His existing case doesn’t have the room to use a DB25 breakout along with Acorn as is.

You could use a DB25 solder cup connector instead of the breakout board. The pinout is on any Acorn schematic.

You could also use a DB25 connector with crimp pins instead of soldering cups.

Basic stepper drives wire to the DB25, the headers are for servos and some closed loop stepper drives. Wire them to the DB25 and they'll work. If you wire them to the headers there's no guarantee they'll move or if they do you more than likely be missing steps. Please follow the Acorn diagrams for those type of drives. Move the Acorn, make more room or use a solder or crimp DB25 to save a bunch of room.

IF they are 5VDC drives you have been advised by others to use the DB25

If you want to *TRY* and use the header, then:
Take +5VDC from the Acorn Power supply, apply it to the drive's + Pul, +Dir terminals (Do not fool with the Enable at this time if the drive has it, "normally" the drive is ENABLED)
Take the drive's -Pul and -Dir terminals to Acorn header Step and Dir terminals for the appropriate axis. Just setup Acorn drive for Header Bench Test, start from there.

You should be doing all of this on the bench, not in a cabinet. Bench test one motor, one drive and then if that is ok, then add the remaining drives and motors and test.

Ok thanks guys will do as mentioned above. I will share more when I have his equipment in hand. I do know he has the KL5056E drivers. I can easily use a db25 solder cup connector. Not a problem at all. I was wondering if I could use the terminals with a C86 Acorn

and the KL5056Es. When I did mine I was using closed loop steppers.

So the user did the Acorn install?
You may have to move Acorn to get access to the DB25.....
You left off the KL when you provided the model number of the drive

No install yet. He has an existing Mach3 install that he asked me to help convert to Acorn. He is building a list of items to convert. Mine went so well and he likes the Intercon conversational programming so much he wants to move to Acorn…. Leave it to me to have him convert to Acorn!!!
