Mini Lathe Encoder System Fault

Post by mujenpwr »

I have my machine up and running. So far so good. However I am using a 500PPR encoder. I am getting a system fault when I try to run a program with any IPR feed rates. If I run the machine w/o the encoder using IPM it runs fine. I have the the spindle encoder counts at + 2000. The RPM shows up in the correct rotation as + when running CCW M4 input. Any suggestions?

Looks like your encoder has an index pulse, did you wire it and can you see it in the PID screen?

OK see encoder spec pics and report below. Also it looks good in the PID.
I actually disabled it in the wizard and re-enabled and I believe its working now. But please review when you have time.
Thank you

Looks correct.
When in the PID screen as you pictured above, axis 5 is your spindle as you have it highlighted. As you rotate the spindle slowly, an asterisk should appear to the left of the N, once per revolution. This is the index pulse.
Are you getting the asterisk?

Yes sir. I just went down to shop and went into PID and then turned on spindle manually from VCP.

Should be good to go.
When your spindle is turning in the correct (cutting direction) is the RPM value a Positive (should be) or a negative number?
If negative, you had a -minus sign in front of the encoder value in the Spindle setup section of the Wizard (i.e. -2000)

It’s positive in the correct turning direction M4=CCW= + RPM numbers

Positive rotation is clockwise when viewed looking from negative Z towards positive Z.
