Keith, yes, I started with WorkBee and upgraded it to QueenBee. It is HUGE improvement in terms of smoothness of motion due to linear bearings instead of rollers. Here are some pics. As you can see I cannot fit anything bigger than 8mm lead screws.
I studied Franco (and Marty's) channel very closely and watched all WorkBee videos. He ended up putting ClearPath motors in it and getting reed of it. LOL.

8mm pitch screws would be 0.315" per rev.

ok great. got better photos of the gantry screws? are these double lead screws?

with power off, tape and tape/ruler to the axis and line it up with the slide, mark the screw with a marker and grab the screw with your hand rotate it one revolution and then how far did the slide move?

It is 8 mm move per revolution confirmed.

great! that will work nice with 3D surfacing and our G code smoothing feature.
what kind (make/model) of stepper drives are currently being used? photos?

To really pull out the detail, you need to get familiar with the "Smoothing" settings I speak of in that thread. Along with that, try adjusting your accel setting (currently 0.5) in the wizard, but you can also tweak it in the smoothing settings, where you should set one up specifically for 3D relief work. With 3D files, your Z axis is consistently being jerked up/down and if your accel is set to be too abrupt, steppers can loose steps.

Also, make sure you set the Z axis feedrate to be the same as your XY. This will help with motion flow, in that the XY won't have to wait for the Z so much.

Next, and this is more for getting an opinion from the others here, but wouldn't putting ClearPath's on a acme screw driven machine be a bit much overkill? If you want closed loop, while not as sexy, how about a set of NEMA23 closed loop steppers/drivers. Although, it is fun spending other peoples money! :lol:
