JMC 1.5kw Servo as spindle motor

Post by suntravel »

I am in the process swapping the original 3-phase motor with VFD to an servo to get rind of loud gears an easy control the spindle with the Acorn.
Will run this with an HTD beltdrive 1:1.63 to get 0-8400min-1 and enough torque for M16 tapping in steel.

Was very easy to get it driven with Acorn, only 5 wires to the board for the basic functions and 2 parameters changed in the driver.

I also connected wires for Alarm input to Acorn and Alarm reset on the plug on the driver. The soldering was a bit fiddly.

Runs smooth in the first test CW and CCW, rpm is spot on.

I also wired up an encoder wich will be T2 belt driven from the spindle.

Since its working next step ist to make the parst to fit the servo to the mill and wire it up with EMI filter and shielded cables, relay for E-stop ect.

Servo and driver:

1500W / 5,73Nm(max 14,33Nm) 110mm Servo Motor Kit 230V/AC JMC 110JASM515225K-17BCT+JASD20002-20B Closed Loop

If some one is interested in the wiring pls. ask, but i have only handwritten schematics....

Completed the wiring and did the final measurements for the adapter parts....

Only problem right now is that the servo turns 150min-1 with M3/M4 S0. Output from Acorn is 0,15V with S0

The filter parameter in the driver did not work as expected, maybe needs some other tunning...

I think you will be doing well to manage M16 tapping in steel - Kennametal reckon 23Nm would be required.

With 5.73Nm and 1:1.63 you may be talking 3.5Nm. Besides, I can't imagine how you'd hold an M16 tap in that little machine?

Jep I meant M12 or M16x1,5, works both with the original motor also.

Needs 9,1 Nm only slightly over the max. torque that is no problem for the 2s tapping.

High torque while tapping is less of an issue than drilling with big drills in a light machine.

Solved that the servo was turning with S0 command.

Used Auxilary function AF_oF1 to calibrate zero drift of the analog input :)

great thanks for reporting back

most VFD's have a threshold setting for zero rpm "below this voltage = 0 rpm" etc.. that needs set up.

Setting the parameter for the threshold did not work like expected.

Function Af_oF1 seems to be some kind of Autotunning, it runs a few seconds and then displays Finish, after this the servo is working like it should.

Dokumentation from JMC is by far not as detailed and user friendly like Centroid.

Wow, you must post a video of this Sieg X2P tapping M16 in steel. That will be impressive!

Project "Bolt On Horsepower" is up and running :)

Still some little things to do, DIY CNC seems to be a bottomless barrel....

The servo is a big improvement over the 3 phase Motor with VFD and gearbox, half the noise and nearly 4 times more rpm, better surface finish on the parts and much faster responding to the rpm input. Maybe the encoder bracket is a bit overbuild.

Time to set up rigid tapping now.
