Ether1616 Shorts Powersupply
When I connect my new Ether1616 to my system, it shorts the powersupply and shuts down. When I look at it with a thermal camera,
it shows D1 lighting up pretty hot. I'm super short on time, (short enough that I'd be willing to drive 4 hours to pickup a new ETHER1616 in Howard, PA). Any suggestions?-

Re: Ether1616 Shorts Powersupply
How do you have it hooked up? You have something shorted. Any wire wiskers? What happens when you power the board on the bench with nothing connected?
Cheers,
Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: Ether1616 Shorts Powersupply
This is standalone and yeah it shuts the power-supply off. Something is definitely shorted on the board. We just had it overnighted from Centroid. Client is squirmin.
To clarify: this happens when it's completely disconnected from everything except 24v

Re: Ether1616 Shorts Powersupply
Is the ethernet cable disconnected as well? Are all ethernet cables shielded?.. metal clips on both ends? Try disconnecting the ethernet cable.

Re: Ether1616 Shorts Powersupply
All Acorn boards are tested before they leave.
How did you test Ether1616? How was it mounted? Pictures?
NOTHING was connected other than Power Supply?
Have you tested the power supply to make sure it is GOOD? Put a 24VDC load on it?
Perhaps temporarily swap it with the Meanwell Power supply that came with Acorn?
Centroid is not open on weekends. You will likely have to call them Monday morning after you have done your troubleshooting.
I am not speaking for them, but they may want it back to inspect it. They will need to determine if there was a component failure or it was damaged.

Re: Ether1616 Shorts Powersupply
I am four hours away from Howard PA; client is anxious so yeah, an 8 hour uber ride could be in my future.
I totally see that it has an inspection sticker on it and that it says "ok" with a date.
I have the original power supply it came with, tested it on that WITHOUT ANYTHING connected, not even the relays. Just two wires, 24V and COM. I've used different powersupplies, up-to 4A, same result (over-current fault). Like I show in the video (gif) above, when powered on, D1 goes super hot and then the (any) powersupply faults out from overcurrent.
I am confident this board is bad, except there's zero indications of failed components. no brown, no smoke, no burnt traces, no loose connectors, no whiskers, no crossed wires, no puffy parts, no juicy components, no delaminating traces, no flaking circuits, no loose bga balls, no weird connections, no clicks, no pops, no hums, no buzzes, nada. 0-24V and it overcurrents any powerssupply (I'm not going to give it more than 4A, but if this thing is drinking >100W, it's definitely toast). What pictures do you want, a picture of a perfectly normal looking ETH1616? Bottom? Top? Side view? infrared? UV? Xray? Neutron spallation radiograph? It's dead, I know it's dead, I will personally deliver it to Keith or you or whomever to prove it; however, I need a new one like immediately, even if I have to rent a helicopter and buy the original eth1616 engineering sample from the centroid museum and pay with a 24k gold bulldozer, powered by antimatter, engraved with bitcoins.
I just need one asap. help!!!
