Connect Drive PUL+ to Acorn DB25 STEP terminal (1=X, 2=Y, 3=Z)
Connect Drive DIR+ to Acorn DB25 DIR terminal (1=X, 2=Y, 3=Z)
Connect Drive PUL- to Acorn DB25 PIN 18 (COM)
Connect Drive DIR- to Acorn DB25 PIN 19 (COM)

Wired this way, you won't need the +5VDC from Acorn at all. The STEP/DIRECTION DB25 terminals provide it.

The ACORN DB25 was designed to work similar to the PC DB25 parallel port.

If you look inthe photo posted my dir + andpul + are jumped and same wire. Should I just remove those wires and run new wires from those ports into the db25 then? sorry for millions questions i just dont want to damage anything

I dont have to use it "AS IS" I want to do things properly.

So to clarify your last post. I will run a wire from the V1 port of the MEanwell power supply and run it to my steppers DIR + which is already jumped to the PUL +. I am not jumping it at the db25 connector correct?
Sorry, I see the report now. Its getting late and the end of the day for me.
You have a couple things to try. Just disconnect everything and work with ONE axis first.

well now it cant communicate with the acorn controller. I removed the db25 connector and now it communicates. I double checked all wiring to be exactly how you posted above and it the same. wonder why

Do you have the heart beat led flashing at about one pulse per second?

Yes, I swapped db25 connectors and ran new wires and now the X works! X+ moves to the left, X- moves to the right, so I believe I will need to reverse the axis?

Correct. Do that in wizard Axis Configuration. Toward the bottom of the screen.
Connect each axis one at a time after you get successful movement.
You need to know what the drive dip switch settings are for the steps per motor revolution.

Glad you are making progress. Carry on...

Thank you Marty! One last question for the night while I try and figure everything else tonight... Just found the wizard setup. Thanks so much. Also, some of the menus is asking for a password even.

Might be because I didnt buy the digitizing software yet and still on free version? Was hoping to get a trial run before i invested in that.

Marty do you have any friends or family that skateboard? for your help I'd love to send one your way. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you Marty. You the man! Your videos helped but I worried I was doing something different because I didnt have a hybrid stepper. with encoder. Your help has greatly helped me and I will continue to keep cracking on tonight and seeing how far I get. Please let me know about the skateboard. We make professional quality decks here. I would love to gift you one

You need the Digitizing license for that. Sorry, no trial versions.
Get your machine squared away on CNC12 and Acorn first.

Thanks for the offer. At 58....I try to stay away from those sorts of sports. My 34 year old son used to skate board....about 20 years ago. 😁

I'm almost 37 and still rolling on that wooden plank hahaha. Alright well no worries. I hope that you know I truly appreciate your time and your advice you have given me. You are one of those people I feel don't get the credit they deserve for all the help you give the community. Great YouTube content too.

Ive got the X, Y, Z working now. Havent had the chance to reverse the X yet, but was happy to have the rest up and working. Wednesday I plan on tackling the E stop and Spindle. Seems like a pretty big job but hopefully it works out easy since those wires are still connected to the old Mach 3 Controller so hopefully I can just swap them to that new relay board Centroid included with the kit. After I get those done I'll be moving onto wiring the probe finally! I'm sure I'll get stuck again and post on here tomorrow LOL. Thank you once again Marty. You're a true credit to the community I hope centroid kicks you some $$ haha

Reversing the axis is as easy as changing the N to a Y(es)
You might do a YouTube Search on Centroid Digitizing to get more feel for the operation.
Also, post pictures of examples of what you want to digitize and what your expectations are. Those with experience can try and answer them.

Do make sure you know what microstep setting your drives are set to and enter that into the Motor Steps per revolution setting in the Wizard. Overall turns ratio will be your ballscrew pitch times any pulley reduction. For example, a 5tpi ballscrew with a 2:1 reduction will be 10 for the overall turns ratio value The same with a ballscrew direct coupled to the motor would be 5.

Get these values set before you start working on home switches and soft limits. When you command an axis to move say 5" via MDI you want it to move the commanded distance of 5"

Continued luck on the project.
Marty
