Graphics showing mirror of machine movement

Post by cad cam man »

Just now getting my cnc conversion up and running and today I was able to run my 1st part . I have noticed a few things 1st that the graphic window is showing the x axis on the opposite side of where the tool is cutting on the machine . The machine has home switches and I have attached the report . I was wanting someone to take a look at the report and see if I have made a mistake in the settings or if something is out of place . The x axis motor is on the right end of the machine .If there is something I am missing please let me know . I am not sure how to get the machine to start cutting and show the same in the graphics window . My other issue I think is coming from the machine having the wrong direction of movement in it, causing the machine to cut only half of the bore. After getting the right settings I will be able to address this as it is

What kind of Machine? Knee mills typically have HOME such that the table is fully to the right and (Y) towards the front - Z fully up.
When you use the VCP does the TABLE move in the same directions as the arrows or opposite?

It is a bench top mill . .pm727v... yes the x axis arrow on the right moves the table to the left and the x arrow on the left moves the table to the right...so opposite

I believe that is as it should be...the spindle is really what is moving per the arrows. Does your machine home? Have you measured the travel...does it move one inch when commanded in all three axes? Marty has a video and spreadsheet to help calculate the proper turns ratio- The spreadsheet is linked in the description https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3SSgb_FnDA

I have checked all those details , I have made a part and it measures within .002" of what was programmed so that is what brought me to think it maybe something to do with the settings

cad cam man,

Would you send the program that you are graphing and running. This way we can see what you are seeing on the graph. If the program was created with Intercon send that program also.

0.002 is not bad...for a sample of one. Getting measurements in x-y-z would provide better info. I consider the capability of a mill to be +/- 0.001. My first part cut a four inch circle that was oblong. Tweaking the turns ratios brought it closer to round. When you set the turns ratios it will become more accurate using longer moves. I initially set mine moving one inch and going to three made it more accurate - I need a 12 inch standard and then it will be better... Marty has a set up video using 1-2-3 blocks, to get 12 inches I will try.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XE4-5xstWQ Make sure backlash compensation is off.

I'm at work right now but yes I will send the program im running ...it was made with mastercam 2020 but that has nothing to do with what we will be looking at . So around 5 o'clock central time ( usa) I will post the nc file here as its own file so you can download and run it im curious to see what you end up with as well

Let's try something shorter, simpler, and with less bilateral symmetry.

What does this look like when you graph it?

What does it look like when you run it, using a suitable small-diameter cutter?
