send in for repair

Post by jamielaycock »

I have an Acorn CNC controller and it was damaged by mice. I replaced the damaged wires and ribbon cable (I could not find an exact replacement for the ribbon cable as you can see in the pictures), but it is not communicating with CNC12. Can I send this controller in for diagnosis and repair? If so, how do I do that? If not, what are my options for fixing it? Here is a link to pictures:

Hi. thanks for the photos, i think i see another issue, the Tan colored ethernet cable to the Acorn does not look like a shielded cable to me. if that is the case replace it with a shielded ethernet cable.

the ribbon cable that goes from the acorn to the relay board can often be found on Amazon and other internet sources.

if you need Acorn 'repair' we offer a swap out service,,,here is how it works...

Acorn Swap-Out Program: In the event of user inflicted damage, Centroid offers an Acorn board Swap-out program. Acorn Swap-Out Cost: $199.
To order an Acorn Swap-Out: E-mail support@centroidcnc.com the Acorn board serial number and request an Acorn swap-out, Centroid will email a paypal link for $199 and issue an RMA number. Pay for the swap-out board and ship back the damaged Acorn board (with BBG) following Centroid RMA guidelines found in the RMA email from support@centroidcnc.com. Upon receiving the RMA, Centroid will ship a replacement Acorn board (no power supply or cables included just a swap-out Acorn with BBG.) UPS GND. Any License files purchased for the returned board will be transferred to the swap-out board and provided via email along with tracking number of the swap-out shipment.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Two quick follow-up questions:

1) What is the "BBG"? (so I am sure to include it)
2) What do I search for to find a replacement ribbon cable between the acorn to the relay board? I searched on everything I could think of and kept getting the dual-row cables. It is a 10-pin, inline connector at least 8" long and could not locate a replacement. Or can I buy one from Centroid?

BBG is Beagle Bone Green. Google that online so you can see what it looks like. It is plugged into the top of your acorn. It will be obvious once you know what it looks like.
