Are there any good guides on cutting tappers with Acorn?

I'm finding programming tappers very confusing as every time I entre a new number into the CAD it greatly alters the shape of the tapper. Basically I want to cut a taper that at z -0.5 the diameter is 1 inch then I want the tool to cut a 20 degree taped until z-1.5. How do I do this? Thanks.

Cutting a taper? What CAM do you have?

I'm using the Centoid Lathe Free CAD.

I assume you are using the Turning cycle (F7). You need to specify the ending X and Z. The software applies the taper working back from the end point, to adjust your start point.

Z is moving 0.5 inches, at a 20-degree angle.
0.5 * tan(20) = 0.182.
X needs to move out (+) 0.182 per side, so 0.364" increase in diameter.
Therefore your ending point is X1.364 Z-1.50.

Enter a turning cycle that goes to X1.364, Z-1.5, then ask for a -20 degree taper. A negative taper makes the starting diameter smaller.

Thanks. I'll give this a go.

to turn a cylinder and than a taper I would use F6 Profile in Intercon.

Don't have the F6 Profile button on my set up, but I have the free soft ware that came with it. Do I need to purchase a soft ware upgrade from Centroid?

The profile function is part of Intercon that comes with all versions of CNC12. Once you start Intercon, press F3 Insert, and then F6 Profile.
