StepperOnline DM542T (V4.0) 24v wiring, advice needed

Hi Guys,

im just starting so forgive me if i seem a bit green, its all new.

Wiring up the Acorn with a DM542T (V4.0), this version has a 5/24v selector for the control signal. Due to space constraints i cant use the DB25 header on the Acorn, I would like to use the 24v connections on H2/H3. From what i've read this is not standard but should be doable.

Currently i cant find a schematic for this configuration. I've searched the forums, some have had success but there are few details.

I did find a schematic for standard "leadshine" drives that use 5v and H2/3, attached.

Is it possible to sub 5v for 24v to the drives as seen here or are there other considerations?

Greatly appreciative of your help.

Doesn't seem to be getting much attention.

I have read the manual and various posts, the consensus is use the DB25 connector due to some oddities that may happen with the H2/3 headers and stepper drivers. If i have to i will, but hoping someone here will tell me its ok to proceed.

i'd use the DB25 for stepper drives. even though they say they will run on 24, in general we consistently see better results with the 5 vdc ttl DB25 signal for stepper drives. that being said.. franco has these CL86Y stepper online units running on the acorn screw terminals.

I'm running 3 CL57Y drives from stepper online with 24v off the screw terminals. They have been running great for over a year.

I've run DM542 drives via the H2-H3 terminals with 24VDC going through a 2.2K-1W resistor to limit the current to about 10mA. I set the Wizard PPS to 100,000. (My drives could handle 200,000 pps, but 100,000 pps should do the job.)

You can connect the PUL+ and the DIR+ terminals to +5VDC and the PUL- and DIR- to the H2-H3 terminals without using a current limiting resistor.

I do not use Enable+ or Enable- on the DM542. If Enable is turned ON, it disables the drive. If it is left unconnected, the drive is enabled as soon as power is applied to the stepper motor windings.

I'm currently running those drives on my Taig mill connected to the Acorn's DB-25 connector through a breakout board. Most users recommend using the DB-25 connector with a breakout board.

Thanks guys, lots of great info. Have everything mostly wired up, looking forward to the next step.
