UT Oh Red drive light help!

Post by rbuttars77 »

Hi all, I need help. I was running a G83 cycle and all of a sudden my Z Axis moves in the + direction only when either a + or - direction is commanded. The led indicator in the Acorn board is red. I hve triple checked all connections with no luck. I am running a CL86T driver from stepperonline. Did my drive go bad? Please help!!

Double check your wiring.

I suppose the driver switched to double Puls mode, you can check it with the tunning software if your version hase no DIP switch for changing CW toCCW Puls mode.

HI all,
I discovered what the issue was with my Z Axis drive. I have seen in other forums that folks have been experiencing the same issue with the CL86T/Y Drives. Per Stepperonline if you use a 24 VDC input voltage to the (+) control signal, a 2k Ohm resistor must wired in line on the (+) input or the 24V input signal could damage the drive. If you look on eBay in the stepperonline store there is a wiring diagram including the resistor in the description. I noticed the wiring diagram found on the Centroid hookup schematics does not include the resistor. I believe this also goes for the CL57 series drivers as well. Hope this helps.

When you see resistors in the drive manual on the step and dir signals, they are used to drop the voltage to 5vdc.
You'll note there is no resistor needed for +5vdc, one value for 12vdc, and another for 24vdc. So your drives are 5vdc logic drives and should be connected to the DB25 with a DB25 male breakout board. Everyone goes to the Acorn terminals because they are more convenient without really understanding their use, which was intended for 24vdc logic servo drives.

We didn't have much to go on with your initial post. More information may have given us a bigger picture and more to help.

Thank you for posting what resolved your problem. It may help someone else.
