Spindle setup

Post by lavrgs »

I power my mill with a rotary phase converter. I just got the spindle up and running but I am getting some noises - from the RPC and the spindle seems to be a bit unstable. I use a Unidrive for a VFD and haven't made any changes to it since on running with Mach3. Bottom line is it worked before and I also use the RPC to run my lathe with no issues. I feel I can eliminate the RPC and most likely the VFD - so are there any Acorn changes that I need to make?
I did run the spindle bench test - is there any motor tuning or diagnostics that I need to run?

i try to avoid RPC at all costs. many modern VFD's accept single phase power (think dryer outlet) up to certain horse power motor sizes.
after Acorn analog out bench test, be sure to follow the Acorn to VFD hookup schematics and VFD setup guide to calibrate commanded RPM from Acorn to actual RPM observed.
