Re: Software to Convert to .g file
Please explain better what you are trying to do. Have no idea what you mean by ".g files"Tallerarte wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 2:09 pm Hi, i need help, i am new with acorn cnc and i want to know what software i can use to convert diferent files to .g files
What kind of machine do you have? Assuming you are running Centroid Acorn?
More info please...
Marty

Re: Software to Convert to .g file
Do you mean files from BRL-Cad ?Tallerarte wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 2:09 pm Hi, i need help, i am new with acorn cnc and i want to know what software i can use to convert diferent files to .g files
If yes, you have to save them in .dxf format to import them to Centroid.
Kind regards
Uwe

You understand you need CAD to design the part. Then you export the file to CAM to create the Gcode correct?Tallerarte wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 4:38 pm What software do you recommend me? I know fusion360 but can you recommend me another?
Most times, it's not the same software package that does both.
Plasma is 2D so from a CAD stand point, you don't need something very expensive.
How much money do you have to spend on software?
Do you have ANY experience at all with CAD/CAM software?
There are many options for CAD.
Sheetcam
CamBam
Are a couple examples of basic CAM programs that are fairly inexpensive.

Re: Software to Convert to .g file
If money isn´t a thing I would use MasterCam and for komplex Engineering Solid Works.Tallerarte wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 4:38 pm What software do you recommend me? I know fusion360 but can you recommend me another?
Next best is fusion 360 as an affordable CAD/Cam system.
If you only need 2D AutoCAD LT or another lox cost CAD which can export DXF to import them into Centroid.
For simple parts pencil ,paper and Intercon, for 2D Artwork Incscape and Intercon.

Uwe

Software
Thank you very much for the reply. I am new to this world of cnc machines.
If I have knowledge to work in autocad but programs to export them edit them and pass them to g-code I don't have the experience.
I manage a budget that allows me to buy software that is not so basic but not so expensive.
I wanted to buy the fusion360 but the limitations in my country did not allow it.
I saw the programs that you recommended and I liked cambam, do you know any other that is better than that? what do you advise me?

Re: Software to Convert to .g file
If you can export to .dxf you don't really need anything expensive for Plasma in my opinion. Get something and start with it.

Re: Software to Convert to .g file
For Plasmacutting any 2D CAD software, even free ones will do it, they only must be able to export DXF files to Autocad R14 or older format, than you can import them in Centroid and generate there your toolpath.
